Daxie Island is located in the center of the Beilun Port
Area, one of the four deep water transshipment port of China.
With zhoushan archipelago as its natural shelter, it enjoys
small wave, stable current, wide waters and is free from ice
and silt. It is in proximity to international navigational
channel, and the shallowest area is about 18.5 meters deep,
which can meet the requirements of free call by 200,000 DWT
ships at any time, and call by 250,000 DWT ships in high tide.
54 berths can be built with a total berth length of 12652
metres in Daxie port, which can handle cargos of 140 million
tons, containers of 3.5 million TEU and passengers of 700,00
per year.
After nearly ten years?development, the potential advantage
of Daxie deep water coastline is gradually becoming the actual
and practical advantage of existing modern ports, especially
since 2001. Up to now, 18 berths have been constructed with
annual handling capacity of 22 million tons; 7 berths are
under construction, and 10 berths are to start construction
in the near future. It handles cargos of 10.11 million tons
and realize revenues of Customs duties of RMB yuan 1.9 billion
in the first half of 2003. It is estimated that the throughput
in 2003 will reach 20 million tons with an estimated revenues
of Customs duties of RMB 3 billion. Daxie port is shaping
gradually, consisting of general purpose terminals in the
west, containers terminals, LNG terminal, LPG terminal in
the north, iron ore and coal terminal, liquid chemical terminal,
crude oil, heavy oil, and oil products terminals in the East
of the island. It lays the basic foundation for Daxie to be
the important energy, and raw materials transfer base in East
China and the whole country.
On 17 October 2002, the State Council approved Ningbo Port
Daxie District to open to foreign vessels, and on 3 July 2003,
Ningbo Port Daxie Districts passed all completion examinations
before its formal opening. The MOC is going to announce it
with the approve of General Customs of PRC.
